a) Elective Course: Elective course is a course
which can be chosen from a pool of papers.
CBCS system may have common curriculum for these papers. There may be one paper each in the

(i) Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) Course: An elective course offered by the main discipline/subject of study is referred to as Discipline Specific Elective.
(ii)Generic Elective (GE) Course:
An elective
and/or skill-based and are aimed at providing
course chosen generally from an unrelated discipline, with an intention to seek exposure is called a Generic Elective. A core course offered in a discipline may be treated as an elective by other discipline and vice versa. A student in a particular department can opt for General Elective Courses offered by other department only. For example- a student admitted under BA Hons. In History programme can not opt for General Elective Courses offered by the History Department.
b)Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC)/ Foundation Courses:
The AEC may be of two kinds: Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC). Ability Enhancement Elective Courses (AEEC) /Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC)
(I) Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses
(AECC):
AECC courses are the courses based upon the content that leads to Knowledge enhancement. The universities participating in
CBCS system may have common curriculum for these papers. There may be one paper each in the

Communication, (ii) Environmental Science. These are mandatory for all disciplines(i) Ability Enhancement Elective Courses
/AEEC)/ Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) : These courses may be chosen from a pool of courses. AEEC/SEC courses are value-based and/or skill-based and are aimed at providing hands-on-training, competencies, skills, etc.
