INTRODUCTION:
Panigaon OPD College recognizes the importance of environmental sustainability and is committed to creating a green and plastic-free campus. This policy outlines our commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices, reducing plastic usage, and fostering a culture of sustainability within our institution.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to:
a. Promote environmentally responsible practices among students, faculty, and staff.
b. Minimize the use of single-use plastics and reduce plastic waste on campus.
c. Create a sustainable and green environment that supports education, research, and community engagement.
d. Set clear guidelines and expectations for everyone within the college community regarding sustainable practices.
DEFINITIONS:
a. Green Campus: A green campus is one that prioritizes sustainability and aims to reduce its environmental footprint through various initiatives, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and green landscaping.
b. Plastic-Free Campus: A plastic-free campus is one that limits and eventually eliminates the use of single-use plastics, such as plastic bags, bottles, and utensils, in its facilities and operations.
POLICY GUIDELINES
Plastic-Free Campus
a. The use of single-use plastic bags, bottles, cutlery, and straws is strictly prohibited on campus. All members of the college community are encouraged to use reusable alternatives.
b. Cafeteria and vending machines must provide reusable or biodegradable food containers, cups, and utensils. Plastic water bottles will not be sold or distributed on campus.
c. Organizers of college events, meetings, and conferences are required to minimize plastic waste by using reusable or compostable materials for serving food and beverages.
d. Recycling bins for plastic waste should be clearly marked and readily available throughout the campus.
GREEN CAMPUS INITIATIVES
a. Energy Efficiency: The College will strive to reduce energy consumption through measures such as the use of energy-efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems, as well as encouraging the use of public transportation and carpooling.
b. Waste Reduction: Waste reduction practices will be implemented across campus, including the recycling of paper, cardboard, and electronics, and the promotion of composting for organic waste.
c. Green Landscaping: The college will maintain and expand green spaces on campus, plant native trees and shrubs, and adopt eco-friendly landscaping practices.
d. Awareness and Education: Regular workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns will be organized to educate the college community about sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Faculty and Staff
a. All faculty and staff members are responsible for adhering to this policy and promoting eco-friendly practices within their respective departments.
b. They should actively participate in sustainability initiatives and report any observed violations of this policy.
STUDENTS
a. Students are expected to comply with this policy and actively participate in sustainability efforts on campus.
b. Student organizations and clubs are encouraged to organize events and campaigns that promote sustainability.
COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT:
a. Compliance with this policy is mandatory for all members of the college community.
b. Violations of this policy may result in appropriate disciplinary actions.
REVIEW AND REVISION:
This policy will be periodically reviewed and revised as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and relevance.
