Department of English
Introduction
The Department of English, Panigaon OPD College, was established in 1984 along with the setting up of the college. The first permanent teacher appointed in the department was Mr. Fakir Mohan Nayak on 17th August 1988.
Teachers who served without remuneration before this appointment include:
- Mr. Thagiram Bhuyan (14.09.1984 – 15.06.1986)
- Mr. Krishna Dulal Boruah (02.03.1986 – 31.02.1987)
- Md. Baharul Islam (01.01.1988 – 31.12.1988)
Although the department offers a Major in English, students began opting for it only from the year 2015.
Aims and Objectives
- Enable students to effectively use the English language in daily life, especially in speaking.
- Improve writing abilities for both literary and official purposes.
- Prepare students for various competitive examinations.
- Enhance reading skills to extract knowledge from English literature and texts.
